Harwich Town Council is a ‘Dementia Friendly Organisation with all its members and staff having undergone dementia awareness training.

The Council runs events for those living with dementia along with their families and last year organised a memory walk from the leading lights on Dovercourt promenade to Harwich’s Maritime Museum and back.  This was on behalf of Alzheimer’s UK.

The event was a great success and was very well supported throughout the local community.  As a result, Harwich Town Council has decided to make the Memory Walk an annual event and this year’s walk will take place on Sunday 21^st September commencing at the leading lights at 10.00am.

Mayor of Harwich, Councillor Pam Morrison says “Harwich Town Council is a Dementia Friendly Organisation and takes this role very seriously, having such a wonderful promenade, it was decided to organise a Memory Walk on behalf of Alzheimer’s UK, and the community was incredibly supportive.  As a result, the Council has decided to make it an annual event, and we are sure that this year’s event will be equally successful”.

“Last Year’s walk showed how important dementia awareness is to the residents of Harwich and Dovercourt and I am sure that we will see an equally large response on Sunday 21^st September” continues Councillor Morrison.

“We intend to have a donation points at the leading lights and the Maritime Museum  where Harwich Society volunteers will be on hand. We are looking forward to another successful event both to raise money and to promote dementia awareness.”
